Daqiu Island introduces Kenting sika deer restoration project
In the 1970s, Taipei Yuanshan Zoo donated five male deer and five female deer to the Lianjiang County Agricultural Improvement Farm, and then released them into the wild on Daqiu Island. They adapted well on the island, and as a result, more than a hundred deer have been reproduced to this day. quantity. At present, the Lianjiang County Government and the Matsu Scenic Management Office of the Ministry of Transport are interested in developing "deer watching" as a tourism project to sustainably manage Daqiu's sika deer tourism resources and continue to maintain Daqiu's ecological model. Since 6 sika deer were transferred to Daqiu Island from the Sika Deer Rehabilitation Center of the Reclamation Management Office in 2014, due to the remarkable results of off-site rehabilitation, 9 sika deer were transferred again this year, and sika deer introduced from Kenting National Park were transported to increase the original population. Preserve the genetic complexity of the population in different places and stabilize its population size. This case combines the veterinary profession, administrative team and academic units to provide relevant consultation, with the goal of improving the sustainable management of Daeqiu Island's ecological tourism and promoting the development of ecological education.
