Ground penetrating radar applications for provincial road maintenance inspections and preliminary exploration of the feasibility of AI intelligent recognition.
The maintenance inspection of provincial highways usually paved with flexible pavements, it is suggested that "special inspection" be conducted using ground-penetrating radar for non-destructive testing in a large area and at various depths. Compared to on-site excavation, it is faster, safer, with lower risk, energy-saving, reduced carbon emissions, and lower pollution. It is more accurate and effective in detecting the causes of frequent or repetitive pavement damage. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) to recognize ground-penetrating radar signal images is feasible, and both the highway department and academic experts are positive about the development of AI recognition systems. However, the establishment of relevant data databases, especially localized data, is a key issue for the development of AI recognition.
