Applying underwater stereophotogrammetry system to investigate the fish community and body size of coral reefs in the southern sea area
Currently, the methods for collecting fish body length information include measuring on land after collection, direct visual observation by divers, and parallel laser measurement methods. However, the uncertainty of fish body length information is increased by the amount of collection (whether excessive collection causes the inability to continue observing the target fish population), the accuracy of diver visual observation, the limitations of laser alignment with target organisms (too large or too small body sizes), and biological interference. In June 2022, our institute purchased an underwater stereo photography system to shoot fish images and analyze fish body length and relative distances between fish individuals using the system's software to reduce fish sample collection, minimize biological interference, and improve the accuracy of fish body length information.
