Criminal Justice Policy and Crime Research Papers (16) - "Application of Image Processing Techniques in Investigation and Forensics - From Two-Dimensional to Three-Dimensional Space"
The main purpose of investigation is to uncover the truth, while the main purpose of forensics is to confirm facts. In the process of uncovering the truth, we can obtain helpful information for case investigation through various methods and tools (e.g. searching for suspicious individuals or vehicles through surveillance footage) and conduct further verification. However, when confirming facts, it is necessary to choose recognized valid forensic methods and tools. In other words, methods and tools that cannot be verified or have a high degree of uncertainty are not suitable for use in forensic work. This includes commonly used 2D and 3D image processing techniques and how to apply them to investigation and forensic work.
