The Ministry of the Interior, in order to let domestic and foreign people understand the diversity of Taiwan's religious customs and experience the unique historical traces and cultural charms of the religious phenomena here, launched the "Facing the World - Taiwan Religious Culture Creative Soil Project" in 2013, publicly selecting 100 representative religious landscapes including historical sites, historical buildings, and folk festivals, known as the "100 Religious Sceneries of Taiwan". During the selection process, 21 expert scholars from 6 fields including religious studies, history, cultural heritage, cultural creativity, leisure tourism, and religious administration conducted the selection based on three major aspects: "historical and cultural value," "artistic and creative performance," and "leisure and sightseeing function." In addition, a nationwide online voting activity was combined in the selection process, with a total of 578,889 valid votes cast over a two-month voting period, making it the most successful event of its kind in recent years.On November 22, 2013, the Ministry of the Interior announced the results of the selection of the "100 Religious Sceneries of Taiwan," which included 68 architectural landscapes, 24 festival landscapes, and 8 complex landscapes combining architecture and festivals. In terms of the number of selections from each administrative region, Tainan City, the earliest developed city, had the highest number of 14 selections, reflecting to a certain extent the development context of the early pioneers' cultivation of Taiwan when considering the number and distribution of selections in other regions. In terms of the category of belief to which the landscape belongs, Taoism and folk beliefs had the highest number of selections, followed by Buddhism, Christianity, Catholicism, Tiandao, Aboriginal religions, Islam, Japanese shrines, and other beliefs, roughly presenting the proportion and diversity of Taiwan's religious belief types.
