The purpose of the Golden Melody Awards is to seek the creative power of new-generation Taiwanese music, so the awards are designed with breakthroughs and innovations. In addition to setting up single awards and accepting digitally published music works, it also considers the creation of rock, folk, electronic, and hip-hop music in the domestic music ecosystem and sets up awards for these four different music styles. Starting from the second year, jazz and rhythm blues music styles were added to the awards to allow the Golden Melody Awards to encompass a more diverse range of music styles. In addition, in response to the development trend of popular music, "Best Live Performance Award" and "Best Musician Award" are set up; to reward overseas Chinese language creations, "Overseas Creation Music Award" is established.
