According to Article 34, Paragraph 1 of the Labor Insurance Act "Category Table of Occupational Diseases for Labor Insurance" item 8, paragraph 2, "Toxic substances or other diseases not listed in this table shall be added upon approval by the competent authority," the Ministry of Labor (previously the Council of Labor Affairs, Executive Yuan) approved the addition of 29 items in 4 categories in a letter dated June 14, 1996. These were reviewed and included in the "Category Items of Occupational Diseases for Labor Insurance" on May 1, 2008, totaling 52 items in 6 categories. On May 1, 2009, the 7th category of occupational diseases and 42 occupational disease items were added. On September 3, 2010, 2 items were added, and the applicable occupational scope was amended on July 7, 2011. Two items were added in 2012. On September 18, 2015, 3 items were added related to diseases and their sequelae caused by chemical substances (1.48) and occupational cancers (5.25, 5.26). Amendments were made to item 3.3, 3.4, 5.20, and 5.22 in October 2017. Amendments were made to items 1.49, 2.2, 2.9, 7.6, 7.7, 7.8, and 7.9 in December 2019.
