Report on Fisheries Interaction and Bycatch-related Results
This project involves literature collection, interviews at fishing ports, and offshore observations completed by sample households or fishermen to investigate possible bycatch or accidental capture of non-target species (mainly including cetaceans, sea turtles, and seabirds) in Taiwan's nearshore fisheries operations, and to assess losses incurred by fishermen due to cetaceans feeding on their catches during fishing operations. To promote avoidance measures for fisheries interacting more frequently with conservation species along Taiwan's coast, the main work items include: promoting avoidance measures to reduce the bycatch of marine conservation species and mitigate the impact of fisheries, expanding the reporting incentives for accidental capture of marine conservation species in fixed net fisheries, assisting with administrative matters related to bycatch of marine conservation species, and analyzing the outcomes and benefits of promoting avoidance measures and reporting accidental capture.
Data fields
