International Patent Classification
The international patent classification is compiled according to the "Strasbourg Agreement on the International Patent Classification" signed in 1971, and is updated annually by the Intellectual Property Office through the "WIPO IPC" website. The IPC classification table is a tool for obtaining consistent international classification of patent documents. Its main purpose is to establish an effective patent document retrieval tool for patent offices and other users to determine the novelty of the technical disclosure in patent applications, and to assess its inventive step or non-obviousness.
