Datagov Opendata Platform

The horseshoe crab (Tachypleus tridentatus) was listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2019. The assessment report covers the distribution range of horseshoe crabs in all of Asia, including Taiwan, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Almost all regional populations are showing a declining trend, and their habitats are suffering varying degrees of destruction. Due to factors such as habitat destruction from coastal development, consumption, production of medical reagents, bycatch in fishing, and pollution from seawater and marine debris, the crab populations have been declining in the long term. Therefore, horseshoe crabs are also considered as indicator species for the health of coastal mudflats and flagship species. This project aims to collect literature and conduct field surveys to develop conservation action plans for the whole country and local characteristics.
