The Shimen Reservoir is located in the middle reaches of the Dahan River, between Daxi District and Longtan District of Taoyuan City, Fuxing District, Hsinchu County, and Guanxi Town. The main reason for its construction is due to the steep terrain in the upper reaches of the Dahan River, which is unable to store water, leading to frequent water shortages and droughts in downstream areas. The government initiated the construction in July of the 45th year of the Republic of China to alleviate the suffering of the people, develop agriculture, and improve water conservancy. The construction was completed in June of the 53rd year, lasting eight years with over 7,000 participants and a construction cost of approximately NT3.2 billion. The reservoir has a total length of 16.5 kilometers, a full water level area of 8 square kilometers, and an effective storage capacity of approximately 270 million cubic meters. It serves multiple purposes, including irrigation, power generation, water supply, flood control, and tourism. The main structures include the main dam, spillway, drainage tunnel, power plant, rear reservoir, rear dam, Shimen Canal, and Taoyuan Canal inlet. Since its completion and operation, it has made significant contributions to the improvement of agricultural production, industrial development, and people's living standards in the northern region, as well as the prevention of water shortages and droughts. In recent years, with the increasing environmental awareness, the Northern Region Water Resources Office has actively managed the watershed and environmental protection to prevent water source pollution, while promoting the concept of water conservation to cherish water resources. This dataset provides turbidity data of the Shimen Reservoir to help the public understand the turbidity conditions of the reservoir.
